Lisa Kaley-Isley, PhD, E-RYT-500, C-IAYT
Lisa integrates the wisdom and practices of yoga and psychology to provide personalized yoga therapy and to educate yoga teachers and yoga therapists.
Lisa Kaley-Isley is a clinical psychologist, yoga teacher, IAYT certified yoga therapist, and yoga educator. A native US citizen, after 10 years living in London, Lisa how now moved to Wassenaar, Netherlands.
Lisa has been licensed as a clinical psychologist in the United States since 1992. In the US, she worked in a wide variety of mental health and medical care facilities from homeless shelters to a top-rated US pediatric medical centre. Lisa was drawn to psychology by her desire to compassionately understand the interaction and influence of human experience and behavior. She moved into health psychology to more deeply understand the mind-body connection, and she was an early adopter of integrating yoga practices into her clinical work.
Lisa was introduced to yoga in 1993 and it was love at first asana. Lisa is a long-term yoga student of Yogarupa Rod Stryker of Para Yoga and Pandit Rajmani Tigunait of the Himalayan Institute. She studied yoga therapy with Gary Kraftsow of American Viniyoga. These traditions all influence her personal practice, teaching, and therapy. Lisa is initiated into the Sri Vidya tradition and is empowered to impart personalized practices to individuals who want to use yoga to promote their coping, healing, growth, and personal transformation.
Lisa is a tutor, supervisor, and mentor on the London based Yogacampus Yoga Therapy Diploma course. She established and directed the Yogacampus Yoga Therapy Clinic, a student-training clinic providing affordable access to yoga therapy in London for 10 years. She also teaches mental health modules on teacher training and yoga therapy courses in the UK and US.
Lisa is a past member of the IAYT Accreditation Committee, and she is a founding member of the Global Consortium on Yoga Therapy. She is a co-founder of the European Yoga Therapy Association.
Lisa has conducted yoga research studies to evaluate the effectiveness of yoga in reducing symptoms of anxiety, depression, and somatization in medically ill adolescents. She has presented at numerous conferences and published articles and book chapters on adapting yoga for adolescents with mental health disorders.
Lisa offers mental health focused workshops and intensive trainings to yoga practitioners, teachers, therapists and trainees. Her intentions are 1) to raise awareness of mental health conditions, and 2) to increase competence and confidence in yoga teachers and therapists to offer safe, responsive, and empowering practices for themselves, their students, and clients. Lisa’s workshops provide opportunities for personal experience and reflection, as well as learning how to better assist others on their journey.
